I got my own Kindle last week - I'd preordered it when Amazon had announced the international availability earlier this month, and it was finally delivered.
Let me tell you three reasons why I chose Kindle.
- Wanted to read more and more books written in English
- Wanted to eliminate or reduce shipping cost with purchases of books in English
- Needed to reduce the weight of my bag
Being an IT engineer and someone who tries to improve his English proficiency, I have been reading books written in English. Amazon Japan helps me purchase many popular books without shipping cost, but the selection of English books is somewhat limited, so I often need to go to Amazon.com for some titles. Which cost me not-so-small amount of shipping fee.
The first reason ("read more books") is sort of high-level, and Kindle alone will not be a solution to it. But combined with the second ("reduce shipping cost"), and the added bonus of "no time delivery," Kindle becomes the perfect fit for me.
The third one ("reduce my bag weight") is simple. I usually carry a notebook or two, several books, a laptop (13-inch MacBook) and more. Can easily weigh like 4-5kg, or 10 lbs. And bike ride, or even bus ride, with my bag is becoming a burden for me, which has been an issue to solve.
In short, I am happy with all of these after using Kindle over a weekend. Through some reading and some purchases. I will talk more about it in my next posts.
先週、Kindleが届きました。米国外にもKindleを発送します、というアナウンスを見てさっそく予約していたものです。
Kindleを買った理由は主に3つ。
- もっと英語の本を読もうと思っていた
- 英語の本を海外から買うときの送料を減らしたかった
- カバンの重さにうんざりしていた
英語の本を買う時は、たいてい日本のAmazonから買うのですが、モノによっては日本のAmazonの扱いがなく、Amazon.com から購入するしかない場合があります。が、送料が高くついてしまう、というのが悩みのタネでした。Kindleなら、高い送料という問題が解決し、さらには配送を待つ必要がない、というわけです。
三番目の理由は、いたってシンプル。本数冊、ノートパソコン（13インチのMacBook）その他を持ち歩いていると、カバンが重くて。。。少しでも減らしたいなぁ、とずっと思っていたのです。
Kindleを使ったのはまだこの週末の2～3日だけですが、Kindle版の本の購入、読書、持ち歩き、、、おおむね満足してます。使用感については、また書きますね。
